Iyanya’s “Like” With Kizz Daniel & Davido Is One Of The Best Songs In Nigeria Right Now
I don’t know if anyone’s really keeping up with Iyanya.
Since his Mavin stint that year, he’s not really done anything noteworthy. The once-promising artist had hits like “Kukere,” “Ur Waist,” and “Sexy Mama” back in the day. He was a real sensation.
But that’s the way it is. Soldier come, soldier goes. Iyanya came and went. Today, he’s not really in any group. He’s not a young promising artist anymore and he’s not an A-list artist either. Iyanya’s just one of those artists that’s floating in between. He’s not like Timaya who continues to be consistent with dropping hits either. So, he’s just there.
But this new song is something. I mean, it’s gotta be. When you put the Kizz Daniel & Davido duo on a song, you’re sure to have something good.
On the surface, “Like” is a Kizz Daniel song. It sounds more like a ‘Kizz Daniel ft. Iyanya & Davido’ affair. From the instrumental to the composition of the song and the arrangement, it’s all Kizz.
The singer, who is currently enjoying the success of his hit single, “Buga,” is one of the hottest artists in the country at the moment. His last year’s EP, “Barnabas” is still doing numbers and in the country, right now he’s top 3.
Davido, on the other hand, has not really been active this past year. Sure, he’s done a couple of songs and a whole lot of features, so he’s still one of the most relevant guys in today’s industry.
Together, what this two bring to the table is more than any other duo right now. To the extent that a joint EP is reportedly coming. Their link-up on “Like” is divine. Kizz Daniel did the hook and Davido assisted with a verse, however short.
Iyanya did his thing but with Kizz Daniel and Davido on the track, he didn’t have to do much. Besides, nobody had to do much because the song wasn’t even that long. Maybe it’s not long, but it’s certainly good, though.
“Like” is such a good one and can easily be as big as some other Kizz Daniel hits like “Lie” and “Oshe.” Iyanya may not be back just yet, but this is one hell of a song, though
